Division II ladies softball in Washington State…..two teams vying for a place in the playoffs, each of them trying to get there for the first time.
Sara Tucholsky, a 5-foot 2-inch, four-year senior whose role has always been part-time starter, and who has never hit a home run. Her team is ahead 1-0 and there are two baserunners. Despite the heckling from a crowd of fewer than 300, Sara swung at the second pitch and hit it out of the park, over the center-field fence.
Naturally, she’s incredibly excited!! Her team is ahead, 4-0!! So excited, in fact, that she misses first base…...and when she turns to go back and touch it, she twists her knee, and collapses in agony.
