WHAT SONG WAS #1 ON THE DAY YOU WERE BORN?
On October 17, 1947, it was NEAR YOU, which topped the charts for a (still) record 17 weeks straight.
The composer was Francis Craig (who also wrote the Vanderbilt University FIGHT SONG, DYNAMITE), and Near You was the first big hit associated with Nashville, TN….an event that may very well have led to its becoming the COUNTRY MUSIC RECORDING CENTER.
