I must have had mine last week—Gail and Laura headed downtown to do some shopping, and to spruce up Leslie’s new office. Sophia came over for her regular “date” from 1:00 to 5:00 at Grandmama and Papa’s house. She and I did some imaginative play in the house….

Then we went outside for a while….
.
We “fished in the stream”, we avoided the “sharks”, we hid behind the pig when the sharks came after us, and we caught “crabs” and petted them….and when it got a bit cold, we went back in the house to read…...and for a while, that worked pretty well…..

Papa, as usual, got REALLY sleepy…..but when I asked Sophia she denied it stoutly—“Read, Papa!” But, age and guile can overcome youth and vitality in many many cases. I tilted the reclining chair back, held the book up where she’d be able to see the pictures, and suggested that she just rest her head on my shoulder…..and it worked!! It took about two minutes, actually….and here is the result:

Gail got home about 40 minutes later, and I woke up…but Sophia was out hard. So we got the photo of the end to a perfect afternoon. Have I mentioned how much I’m enjoying being a grandfather?
