On Wednesday, Sophia came running into the house exclaiming “Grandmama!! Papa!! Come and look!! The TOMATILLOS are hatching!” And sure enough, they were - a number of them were so big that they were splitting their husks:
.
.
We went out to check the plants….
.
.
and for the first time here in Bend, we had too big a harvest to carry in our hands
.
.
Sophia was LOVING all the tomatillos
.
.
but she wanted very much to take off the husks
.
.
so we let her peel the entire batch.
.
.
I’ll probably let all the ones still on the bushes swell up a little more before I pick them, and then combine them all and make the cooked version of tomatillo salsa that I’ve tried before.
The strawberry plant has at least one more berry on it—we may increase our strawberry harvest by 50% in the next week or so!!
