SOMETIMES IT SEEMS AS IF WE *WANT* TO LOSE THE WAR IN AFGHANISTAN!
The drug warriors are at it again—making plans to spray defoliant on the poppy crop in southern Afghanistan! This drives the populace into the arms of the Taliban, and is completely unnecessary. Apparently there is a need for opium in the legitimate market, and we would be far better off to simply buy the entire crop. Everyone wins—the world gets the opium it needs for medical purposes, the Afghani farmers make money from their #1 cash crop, and the Taliban loses the income from illegal sales of opium.
