THE EDINBURGH FRINGE FESTIVAL DESERVES AN AWARD FOR COURAGE…..

I’ve loved THE FRINGE , ever since our son Thorvald presented MIDDLE FLIGHT, his own one-man play, there in 2001.

But, this year there’s a REALLY SPECIAL REASON for all of us to love the Fringe…..I refer to “Jihad, the Musical”.

A recent article expounding the idea that unless we can call them names and laugh at them, the terrorists win. That resonates with me….even if we aren’t immediately overrun by the Islamists, if we Americans buy our peace and safety, for the short term, by bowing to Islamist demands that they not be treated like any other group in our country, then we really have begun the descent into slavery. The culture and society that can protest, but permit, PISS CHRIST must not cower in fear and refuse to publicly make fun of the murderous excesses of fundamentalist Muslims.

That’s the setting for Jihad, the Musical. Here is an example of the outrageous humor in the play: I Wanna Be Like Osama

“Outrageous” is actually pretty typical of at least some of the fare at the Fringe, which in 2007 includes a reprise of the PENIS PUPPETEERS.

But, outraging the sensibilities of Christian traditionalists is one thing….it’s quite another to go after such a giant, looming, and important target as worldwide Islamist terrorism. I really do trust that the writers, producers and actors of JIHAD, THE MUSICAL live out their natural lives.
