The governor of Alaska is living her principles, when she didn’t have to, and might have avoided it without anyone ever knowing…..today, that makes her a hero.
Sarah Palin and her husband, Todd, were expecting their fifth child when, early in the pregnancy, they were told that baby Trig was carrying three copies of his #21 chromosome…..Trig Palin had Down’s Syndrome.
Today, almost every Down’s baby is diagnosed early….because doctors put a good deal of pressure on mothers to do the test, at least partly in order to avoid liability in case of a Down’s birth. Because in our country almost every parent knows the truth if their baby has an extra chromosome, it’s estimated that 90% of Down’s babies are killed in the womb, in order to avoid having an “imperfect” child.
But not Sarah and Todd….here is part of their announcement of Trig’s birth:
“Trig is beautiful and already adored by us. We knew through early testing he would face special challenges, and we feel privileged that God would entrust us with this gift and allow us unspeakable joy as he entered our lives.“
If that doesn’t choke you up, you have work to do.
Remember….if every human being doesn’t have the same rights, and if we aren’t vigilant to defend those rights for EVERY human being, then it’s only a matter of time before the circle of those who are at risk enlarges…..and enlarges…...and, if self-interest is what motivates you, please understand that eventually YOU will find yourself within that circle.
Remember Niemoller - he was right, you know….. “First they came for…...“
