HAVE THEY REACHED *YOUR* PERSONAL “YUCK” THRESHOLD, YET?
Really not?
BRITISH scientists have been given permission to create human embryos that will have three genetic parents….The decision to approve the procedure on appeal, after two previous applications were rejected, is controversial because it could eventually lead to the birth of children who carry genes from two mothers and a father.
“Controversial”? Do tell…...
The licence awarded yesterday by the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority (HFEA) allows only experimental use of the technique and not the implantation into a womb of any resultant embryo.
THAT makes you feel better, right? Here you were getting all worked up about a baby with three parents! But, this is just an experiment - not going to be implanted at all!! Those filthy fundamentalists! Getting us aroused about things that aren’t even going to be done—we can trust our scientists to do the right thing, after all.
The Newcastle team does not envisage applying for permission to conduct such procedures for reproductive purposes until several years of research have shown it to be effective and safe, though the ultimate goal is to employ it to create healthy children.
Oooops!! Smell the coffee, yet? The folk who don’t have moral compunctions about creating and killing embryonic human beings in order to further their “research”, are certainly not going to quail at the next step! Haven’t you read That Hideous Strength, yet?
