HAVE I MENTIONED (RECENTLY) HOW MUCH I HATE MOWING THE LAWN?

I’ve WRITTEN ABOUT THIS BEFORE, but we’ve bought a new lawn mower since then….

and I’ve found that even a HONDA MOWER that mulches the grass and has rear wheel drive with three speeds doesn’t make mowing the lawn a pleasure.  I’m not using that giant grass catcher at the back - we mulch the clippings and they become fertilizer (I hope).

However, today I discovered that there are things even less attractive than lawn-mowing in Tennessee…..  I really do hope that none of my students in Ornithology are reading this, because I spent a good share of this afternoon mowing the lawn rather than buckling down to grading the exam they took yesterday!  I HATE grading papers….in fact, once the lawn was done, I also put up the fancy new house number that Gail bought for the top of our mailbox.

All of these things would be showing up in photos, only Gail has the camera in Las Vegas, where she’s attending a conference.  I was able to find my lawnmower on the Web, but not the lawn, or the mailbox.  We’re getting ready for a visit from Thorvald and Emily.  It’s the first time we’ll have met Emily,
and I know Gail wants to make a good impression—the lawn will look good, the mailbox will have a nice house number on top, and the sheets will be ironed.

I have no objection to any of this - in fact, I almost bought flowers today, even though we’re leaving for the weekend - because we can have them in the house when we bring Thor and Emily down on Sunday.  Probably get them tomorrow - they DO make the house look a lot nicer.

Anyhow, I need to go and grade papers….and write my Animal Behavior lecture.  And I’d rather mow the lawn again!!
