GOVERNMENT-FUNDED HEALTH CARE FOR EVERYONE IS PRETTY POPULAR THESE DAYS…..

Before making up your own mind, perhaps you need to expose yourself to some of what is entailed in such systems.

The (cancer) treatment, which can extend the lives of sufferers by up to seven years, was approved for patients in Scotland in October 2004 and is routinely available in the rest of Europe.

The leaked ruling, seen by the Daily Mail, which was not due to be made public until next week, reveals that the drug is more clinically effective than chemotherapy but is not regarded as ‘cost effective’.

How do you like them apples?  And that isn’t all, either….

Since June, the drugs watchdog has refused to endorse five treatments that would extend the lives of people with bowel cancer, leukemia, breast cancer and Alzheimer’s disease.

All of them were cheaper than the breast cancer cure Herceptin, which Miss Hewitt intervened to promote earlier this year.

Did you get this?  It’s not about the cost, after all—for some reason, Patricia Hewitt, the head of the National Institute for Clinical Excellence, prefers one drug and not another.  So, sick people who need the non-preferred drug are denied it, even though it is cheaper!  Remember this….if we decide to have a government bureaucracy care for us, our health will be cared for the same way our driver’s licenses are now - by very human people with whims, resentments, prejudices, dyspepsias, and so on just like the rest of us.

However, unlike the rest of us, they’ll have the power to inflict the results of all those ills on the public at large, because they’ll belong to a public employees’ union.  And although those of us who work in private enterprise cannot afford to indulge their penchant for rudeness, biased behavior, indulging personal whims and the like, government workers don’t have to restrain themselves because they can’t be disciplined (fired) in the same way…...

Finally, don’t you love the acronym for the bureaucracy in question?  NICE.  Oh indeed - someone who knew nothing of C.S. Lewis named that one!
