DISCOURAGED ABOUT SYRIA, ONE OF THE TERROR-MASTERS OF THE MIDEAST?

Wondering if there’s any alternative to James Baker’s suggestion that Syria and Iran should “help” us bring peace to the area? That would be the same Syria that just ASSASSINATED another Lebanese politician who wants Lebanon to run their own country without interference from Syria - interference first set up and supported by…...James Baker.

BUT, there is another way…..and (I am as certain of this as I am of anything) it is the way that the best President in my lifetime (YOU KNOW who I mean) would take.

SUPPORT THE DEMOCRATIC OPPOSITION.

How hard can this be, after all? Have we learned nothing whatever from recent history?

For decades we made deals, had summits, pursued “detente”, and tried to get along with the Evil Empire…...then Reagan supported Solidarity, named the evil in our midst, greeted dissenters in the White House, AND met with the leaders of the Soviet Union and told the truth to both the leaders and to the people trapped in that giant prison….when Reagan did all that, how long did it take for tyranny to fall?

We are fighting a war in Iraq today because we followed the “realists’” line after the first one…...we left Saddam in power when it would have been simple to take him down, and worst of all we refused to offer even minimal support to those Iraqis who rose to take him down themselves immediately afterward. Today we are fighting in Iraq—but we don’t have to fight in Syria and Iran! There are thousands who will fight for their own countries if they get even minimal support from the “leader of the free world”. Let’s start with rhetoric…..talk about these people, encourage them, speak of them in public and especially to their oppressors. Then spend a fraction of our war-fighting budget on support for the Iranian bus-drivers’ union, for opposition newspapers, for the true democrats in Lebanon. Carefully…..secretly if need be…..but if we really believe our words about how people long for freedom, how long can we continue to ignore those who are risking their lives to get it?

Mr. President start talking about THE FREE SYRIANS!
