...and isn’t it wonderful when it shows up?
This is the newest Courage Award….a mathematician (from Canada, yet) cancels his gig at a sister institution because RYERSON UNIVERSITY hosted a branch of ISRAEL APARTHEID WEEK (or IAW), one of more than 25 (in 2008) around Canada. The week is intended to help people understand that the locus of evil in the Middle East is its only multiparty democracy….the country where Jews and Arabs serve side-by-side in a freely-elected legislature.
During the week,
Lectures, films, and actions will make the point that these latest massacres further confirm the true nature of Israeli Apartheid. IAW 2009 will continue to build and strengthen the growing Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions (BDS) movement at a global level.
Sounds to me as if Waterloo College might be a good school to attent—provided there is at least one professor of Dr. Vrscay’s quality and discernment…..

Where do they make such men these days….? This is the attitude that can conquer whatever challenges are before us…..let’s try to be worthy of his sacrifice, and let’s learn from his example.
Hat Tip: BLACKFIVE
....as well as one of the bravest men on the scene, today.
Since his WONDERFUL BOOK, The Content of Our Character, in 1990, this man has spoken the truth as he sees it to an American culture that really doesn’t want to hear it. He has taken a great deal of punishment for pointing out, to both the black and white communities, what was obvious for generations, but which was abandoned in the 1960s. “We sold out our dignity to the government….We have to go after our dignity again….”
The young (47 years old) father and professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon University has died after a brief battle against pancreatic cancer.
Not long ago, his “last lecture” at Carnegie Mellon made him famous, as the apparently fit and healthy young man explained his situation, the way he was dealing with it, and the life and learning that made it possible for him to face the future with such grace.
The guys at POWERLINE have posted an announcement with all the relevant links, including one to the video of his last lecture, and another to a great obituary.

RIP, Randy Pausch.
By this standard, PHILIPPE KARSENTY is truly a hero.
Mr. Karsenty is the founder and president of a media-ratings agency that monitors French media for bias and inaccuracy. He became interested in the MOHAMMED AL-DURA controversy, in which a young Palestinian was alleged to have been killed by Israeli soldiers, while being filmed for French TV. After a careful investigation, he was convinced that the entire event had been staged in order to discredit the Israelis defending themselves against the intifada.
Maybe like living in hurricane country…....?
I faced death when I was a teenager…....but it has to be harder when you’re 47 years old, with a family…...
Randy Pausch is a pioneering virtual reality guy, teaching the last 10 years at Carnegie-Mellon University, with a lovely wife and three little kids….....and pancreatic cancer.
