Well, NOT VERY....that is, if you can trust that notorious right-wing cable network, CNN.
Two young Muslim men drove 13,000 miles across the U.S. and back during the 30 days of Ramadan, visiting a different mosque every day, and interacting with all kinds of Americans. At the end, they said:
““After 13,000 miles, I think that America still exists, and I’m happy to know that it does,” said Tariq, a 23-year-old American of Pakistani descent. “It’s really made America feel like home to me in a way that I’ve never felt before. The America that we think about [as immigrants] is still actually there. I’ve seen it! And I’m seeing it still….
“It was really cool and refreshing to see people who genuinely love the communities they’re in and they’re there to stay,” Ali said. “They’re involved in the community, not just the mosque.”
It was also remarkable to have people, Muslims and non-Muslims alike, “just bend over backwards and be friendly to us,” he said.”
In fact, the worst experience they report occurred in a mosque…although there was a rational explanation for the reception they got.
God Bless America, and keep her safe.
PRESIDENT LYNDON BAINES JOHNSON famously said that if he’d LOST WALTER CRONKITE on the Vietnam War, then he’d lost Middle America.
.
That was a bad moment for an embattled President, and it didn’t get better, either. But, losing a news anchor is one thing…..can our current President actually survive LOSING JAMES CARVILLE?
.
DO NOT miss the video….incredible!
I remember listening to Dave Bing play ball on the radio….I may have seen Dave Bing on the basketball court. I remember reading about Dave Bing in my sports magazines, and admiring his skill….but I didn’t admire him nearly as much back then, and certainly for nothing as important, as I do today.
.
Why did Dave Bing run for mayor of Detroit? Cassaundra says simply, “He felt he had to.”....Yes, people know Detroit is in bad shape ... but what do they really know? Do they know that the graduation rate for African-Americans in the Detroit Public School district is 20%? Do they know that the unemployment rate in the city was recently measured at 27%—and that by some estimates the actual number may be 20 to 25 percentage points higher? Do they know that the turnout in the May 5 special election to replace Kilpatrick, in which Bing first won the mayoralty, was only 15%?
Then there is the city’s deficit, estimated to be approximately $325 million. And the city’s median income, which in 2008 was $28,730—the lowest of any major city in the country.
Are you having fun yet, Mr. Mayor?
.
Dave Bing is a multi-millionaire businessman and an ex-All Star basketball player.

Dave Bing is 67 years old…...
I’ve posted several times about Global Warming (click on Environment in the list to the left), and will do so again. But a major development occurred a couple of weeks ago, and the major news outlets in the United States are not doing a very good job of informing the public about it (surprise, suprise!)
Some background: I have long been a skeptic of Al Gore’s campaign to scare us into doing economically damaging things in order to avoid the CLIMATE CATASTROPHE that he INSISTS IS IMMINENT.

Part of my skepticism is that the actual source of heat for our earth, the sun, is pretty much being ignored….while great emphasis is placed on a minor fraction of the gases known to be trapping heat, a service that is preventing us from turning into a giant ice-ball. And that fraction is carbon dioxide, a gas essential to plant growth, that just happens(?) to be produced by automobiles, power plants, and other things that Al has been preaching against for decades. The fact that Mr. Gore is getting immensely wealthy off his campaign doesn’t increase my tendency to trust him.
HERE IS THE BEST SUMMARY currently available of what has happened, and what it may mean. Just to whet your appetite, I’ll give you some samples:
...And now the climate campaign is having its Emperor’s New Clothes moment.
In mid-November a large cache of emails and technical documents from the Climate Research Unit (CRU) at the University of East Anglia in Britain were made available on a number of Internet file-servers for download by the public—either the work of a hacker or a leak from a whistleblower on the inside. The emails—more than 1,000 of them—reveal a small cabal of scientists who, in the words of MIT’s Michael Schrage, engaged in “malice, mischief and Machiavellian maneuverings.” In an ironic twist, one of the frequent correspondents in this long e‑trail (University of Arizona scientist Jonathan Overpeck) warned several of his colleagues in September, “Please write all emails as though they will be made public.” Small wonder why. It’s being called Climategate, but more than one wit is calling them “the CRUtape Letters.”

I don’t think it’s possible to overestimate how much I miss that man!

One of the aggravating things about government is the bureaucratic maze we all have to navigate to get the mundane things of life done. A new driver’s license, a passport, a business license, etc.
PIERRE LEMIEUX is a Canadian with a gun permit, and he has found that his government takes the aggravation to a whole new level. In order to renew his permit back in 2007, they required him to fill out a more or less lengthy questionnaire…..like a good citizen, he took a deep breath and began checking little boxes, and filling in blanks, until…......well, until they started asking him questions about his love life! Was he divorced? Had he broken up with his girlfriend?
Maybe the interest that some on the left and in the media (but, I repeat myself) take in Neocons qualifies…...
Here is John Podhoretz reacting to Joe Klein’s column about Chas Freeman’s (Ambassador from Saudi Arabia) resignation, only the most recent example of the phenomenon under scrutiny:
As I say, truly astounding. Barack Obama, the anti-neocon, wins 66 million votes and 53 percent. Members of his party control the House of Representatives by a 50 vote margin and are nearly filibuster-proof in the Senate. And still a small cabal of people who — get this! — have the nerve to write articles and blog items quoting the words of the man appointed to head the National Intelligence Council on matters as various as the wonders of the Saudis, the glories of the suppressors of Tienanmen, and the responsibility of the United States for 9/11! See us work our kabbalistic Yiddische magic on the hapless liberals who only think they are in control in Washington!
