BOYCOTT “GOOGLE”—HERE’S WHY

Yes, there are (apparently) good business reasons to do this, but what is a business’ obligation to liberty, not to mention their actual customers? If Yahoo and Google (and others) refused to cooperate with the Communist dictatorship in China, they and their shareholders would lose money. But, by standing for truth and justice, what kind of changes might be brought about in China? And, looking to the future, what do you suppose the reaction of a newly freed Chinese web-surfer would be to companies that refused to kow-tow to the oppressive former regime?

What to do? Oh, just get your doctor to prescribe some CHERACOL! Yes, it tastes nasty….kind of like Dr. PEPPER, but you can stand that to get the CODEINE, which really will do something about your cough!

GREATER LOVE HATH NO MAN THAN THIS…...
I read THE STORY of the spearing of five young missionaries trying to evangelize the Auca of the Ecuadorean Amazon when I was a pre-teen. Life magazine told the story and showed us pictures.
Later, A DOCUMENTARY was made - and the story grew even more incredible, as we learned that the wives and children of the murdered men went into the forest to contact the killers, in a renewal of the effort to bring them to a knowledge of Jesus Christ. The sister of one of the dead men spent the rest of her life with the WAODANI, a name preferred to “Auca”, the Quechua word for “enemy”.
Now, the story is on the big screen, in a production titled END OF THE SPEAR. Gail and I just got back from seeing it, and despite a somewhat equivocal review in a local paper, we thought it wonderful! It’s really intense, it keeps you on the edge of your seat, it made me cry, and it makes the compulsion and the courage that come from knowing Jesus very plain.
The story is told in large part from the point of view of the Waodani, and makes it plain how difficult it was for them to take the road away from their age-old pattern of kill and be killed, in an endless cycle of revenge and murder.
As the credits roll, we see Nate Saint’s only son, Steve (who, with his family, has lived with the Waodani since 1995), eating and shopping and sharing some time in the U.S. with the man (now a Christian) who speared his father 50 years ago. It’s a wonderful end to the movie, to hear Mincaye talking about his experiences in counterpoint to the disbelief of his tribal family when they hear his stories. Half the profits from this film will reportedly go to evangelize this and other indigenous tribes, so go and have a wonderful time at the movies!

CAN’T WE ALL JUST GET ALONG…..?
Well, we just might…..if the Muslim world would only learn something from the KING OF MOROCCO. Say a prayer for this man, and that his brand of Islam will become the dominant one…....
THE CHINESE BEAT COLUMBUS
At least that’s what Gavin Menzies claims in his book, 1421. Lots of historians and geographers disagree, or aren’t willing to go as far as Menzies does, but he’s not giving up. There’s even a WEBSITE devoted to the subject, with lots of information, support, latest news, etc.
And the latest news is that a collector bought a (purported) 1700s copy of the 1400s Chinese map, made after the voyage of discovery was complete. The ECONOMIST has the story, and it’s stirring up a storm in the geographical world—is it a forgery, or are we going to have to rewrite the history of world discovery…..? Stay tuned.
